Russia's Segezha Group has signed an agreement with the Shanghai Lingang Special Economic Zone and plans to build an industrial cluster integrating manufacturing and logistics in the zone in 2026.

In a press release, Segezha said it plans to build a consumer goods packaging processing plant in the zone, as well as a production and distribution center for birch plywood and planed products. The project is intended to expand Segezha's business in China and other Asia-Pacific markets, reduce logistics costs, and simplify international payment processes.

Segezha President Kirill Arsentyev said, "Our group has abundant forest resources and is fully prepared to export high value-added products on a large scale. China has one of the world's largest sales markets and also has the conditions for rapidly adjusting products to meet end-customer needs, along with a modern logistics system. For us, Lingang is an important strategic growth point in the Asia-Pacific region."

Segezha has long exported a considerable proportion of its products to China. In the first nine months of 2025, 34 percent of the company's revenue in the Chinese market came from paper sales, 77 percent from timber sales, and 38 percent from plywood sales. At present, 92 percent of Segezha's paper packaging products are sold in Russia, with the remainder sold to other CIS countries.
