According to the China National Radio program News and Newspapers Summary, the Cyberspace Administration of China announced on December 25 that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China's 5G user penetration rate increased from 15 percent to 83.9. percent, and the country has built the world's largest and technologically leading fiber broadband and mobile communication networks.
Wen Ruisong, Director of the Informatization Development Bureau of the Cyberspace Administration of China, said that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China's information technology innovation capabilities were significantly strengthened, producing a number of landmark, original, and disruptive innovation achievements. Breakthroughs in key core technologies accelerated, and new progress was made in fields such as integrated circuits and foundational software for artificial intelligence.

Wen Ruisong said that the total number of products equipped with the OpenHarmony operating system has exceeded 1.19 billion units, and more than 700 generative artificial intelligence and large-model products have completed filing. Research and development in 6G technology and standards formulation have progressed steadily. The first phase of technical testing has been completed, more than 300 key technological reserves have been formed, and new progress has been made in frontier technologies such as quantum technology and brain-computer interfaces.
Wen Ruisong said that over the past five years, the ecosystem of China's cyberspace and information industry has accelerated its development. The added value of China's core digital economy industries as a share of GDP rose from 7.8. percent to 10.4. percent, and the scale of the digital economy has remained the second largest in the world.
Wen Ruisong said that in 2024, operating revenue of the electronic information manufacturing industry above designated size reached RMB 16.19 trillion, and software business revenue reached RMB 13.73 trillion, up 33.8. percent and 68.2. percent respectively from the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period. National online retail sales rose from RMB 11.76 trillion to RMB 15.23 trillion, firmly ranking as the world's largest online retail market.
